The Millett Opera House Foundation is dedicated to the preservation, restoration, interpretation, and future stewardship of Austin’s historic 1878 Millett Opera House — home of The Austin Club and one of the city’s most important surviving landmarks.

The Millett Foundation Board

Preserving History. Inspiring Generations.

Since its founding in 2015, The Foundation for the Preservation of the Historic Millett Opera House has served as the charitable steward of one of Austin’s most treasured landmarks.

Established to preserve and protect the historic 1878 Millett Opera House, the Foundation exists to ensure that this extraordinary Texas landmark continues to inspire future generations through historic preservation, education, the arts, and community engagement. Today, the Foundation’s vision extends beyond preserving a historic building. It is about preserving a legacy.

Guided by six foundational pillars—Preservation & Stewardship, Sustainability, Significance, Stewardship of Art & Culture, Growth & Vitality, and Engagement & Leadership—the Foundation is building a future where history is honored, education is supported, the arts are celebrated, and our community continues to flourish.

Through the generosity of donors, volunteers, and dedicated community leaders, the Foundation is creating lasting opportunities by preserving the Millett Opera House, building a permanent endowment, supporting scholarships for aspiring artists, expanding cultural programming, and investing in initiatives that strengthen both The Austin Club and the greater Austin community. Every gift entrusted to the Foundation helps preserve not only a remarkable historic building, but also the stories, traditions, and experiences that have made the Millett Opera House an enduring symbol of Texas history since 1878.

Looking Forward

The historic Millett Opera House has stood proudly in the heart of Austin since 1878. While generations before us preserved this remarkable landmark, it is now our responsibility to ensure that those who follow inherit it in even better condition than we received it. The Foundation for the Preservation of the Historic Millett Opera House is committed not only to protecting a building, but to preserving the history, culture, and spirit that have made the Millett Opera House one of Austin’s most treasured landmarks.

Together, we honor the past, strengthen the present, and build the future.
